RVC Police Receive Suicide Awareness Training
On March 13th & 14th, Police Commissioner James Vafeades and the Rockville Centre Police Department held an important suicide awareness training event for their officers. Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training – ASIST – conducted a two-day workshop for RCPD officers that educated them on how to help prevent suicide in our community. The training is meant to increase mental health awareness and act as a suicide first aid course.

Third Annual “Rise Up for Ryan” 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament and Suicide Awareness Walk
Our 3rd annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament was held on Sunday July 24th at Mill River Outdoor Courts in RVC. Congratulations to all the champions and thank you so much for everyone who participated in the basketball tournament and the walk. This year we also had music, food trucks, cornhole, face painting and more! Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and resources to make this special day possible.

Ryan’s Obituary
Ryan O’Shea, who graduated from South Side High School last June, died on Jan. 11 after he was hit by a train at Rockville Centre’s Long Island Rail Road station. He was 18.
